Essential Documents You Need to Carry with You
When traveling to Malaysia from Singapore by road, make sure to always carry the following documents with you, as they are mandatory:
Passport
Your passport must be valid for more than 6 months to enter Malaysia. Remember to check whether your passport has been properly stamped both at the entry and exit immigration checkpoints.
Driving License
You need to hold a valid driving license to drive in both Singapore and Malaysia for less than 90 days. Your National Driver’s License is accepted in Malaysia without the need to apply for an International Driving Permit.
VEP
Motor vehicles registered in Singapore need a VEP. It is mandatory to enter Malaysia via land border crossing. Now, if you are wondering how to secure a VEP for your vehicle, you need to register online via the VEP-JPJ portal and update your personal and vehicle details.
To secure a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) for Singapore-registered vehicles entering Malaysia via land borders, here's the updated process:
Online Registration:
○ Visit the VEP-JPJ portal to register your vehicle and provide your personal and vehicle details. You'll need information such as your NRIC, passport, vehicle registration, and insurance details. Be sure to also download the Touch N’ Go app, which links to your VEP-RFID tag for toll and road charge payments.
Confirmation:
○ After submitting your registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email. This can take a few days or weeks. Once confirmed, you will need to proceed with the RFID tag installation.
RFID Tag Installation:
○ You can collect your VEP-RFID tag at designated centers, including:
■ Gelang Patah Southbound RnR
■ Plaza Angsana Open Carpark C
■ Pandan RnR
■ Lima Kedai Toll Plaza
○ When visiting the center, bring your VEP confirmation slip, appointment details, photocopies of your passport, insurance, and vehicle registration documents.
Final Steps:
○ After installation, take a photo of the tag on your vehicle and upload it to the VEPAMS portal. The RFID tag is valid for five years from activation and must be installed on a flat surface of your vehicle, typically the windshield or left headlamp.
Touch ‘n Go (TNG) card
