Urgent Care International - An Alternative to A&E for Minor Injuries!

by Urgent Care Clinic International

September 2024

Have you ever had a minor injury but really wanted to avoid the long wait in A&E? Have you experienced a minor illness but didn’t know if it was serious enough for a hospital visit?

Specialist emergency physician DR JOANNE PROBERT tells us why you should consider visiting

URGENT CARE CLINIC INTERNATIONAL

What exactly is Urgent Care and how does it differ from visiting the A&E?

An Urgent Care Clinic is a walk-in clinic focussed on the delivery of medical care for minor injuries and illnesses outside the traditional hospital-based Emergency Department.

The benefit is that it provides the same prompt medical attention for non-life threatening conditions as a hospital A&E but without the long wait and hassle.

Tell us about Urgent Care Clinic International and its philosophy and services. What do you hope to provide for patients in Singapore?

At UCCI, our mission is to provide patients with their own Specialist Emergency Physician to deliver high quality, consistent and predictable emergency medical care tailored to our patients’ individual needs with a personal touch.

UCCI consists of a team of Specialist Adult and Paediatric Emergency Physicians and Nurses, all of whom have previously worked in hospital A&E departments, so patients will receive the highest standard of care.

Regardless of when you attend, you will always see the same friendly faces, much like seeing your regular GP. We believe that knowing your medical team is always reassuring when faced with the stress of medical emergencies!

Can you walk us through the experience of visiting Urgent Care Clinic International, including rehabilitation and after care?

From the moment you walk in you will immediately speak to a nurse. The nurse will speak to you about your medical needs to ensure you are seeing the correct doctor in a timely fashion. Similar to a hospital, we can provide X-Rays, scans, and blood tests on site as part of our broad investigation ensuring that the diagnostic process is efficient. We can also provide telemedicine and home visits where necessary.

Many treatments can be performed on site including wound care and suturing, casts for fractures, intravenous medications and we have observation areas to monitor patients but can also admit to private hospitals for overnight observation if required. We have an excellent network of specialists we can refer to, if needed, and can choose the best one for the patient, as we are an independent clinic.

After discharge, our nurses will follow up with a call or message to check you are getting better or have any further questions.

Cost is always a concern for patients so we always strive to provide cost conscious medical care. Patients can claim using Medisave where eligible, private medical insurance, travel insurance or personal accident insurance.

Being a privately owned practice, we can adjust our professional fees for the less advantaged and foreign workers.

What types of conditions can be seen at UCCI?

You also have a special interest in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM), Wellness and Women’s Health. How does that fit into the medical care provided at UCCI?

I believe in providing a holistic approach to both men’s and women’s health looking at all aspects of medical care including conventional medicine, lifestyle pillars and also functional medicine if patients are keen to delve deeper.

I have further qualifications in SEM and Menopause care and I am a member of the International Menopause society. There is no “one size fits all” approach when it comes to hormones and Women’s Health and I believe that all women deserve the high quality individualised care that is provided at UCCI.
